Frequently Asked Question: “How do I know if my skincare products are working?”

I get this question several times a week so here is My Best Esthetician Answer, in the form of a tiny quiz:

1. Are you using the products as recommended? (Yes or No)

The truth is products probably aren’t working if you’re not using them consistently as recommended.

A Typical Regimen:

-Cleanse AM/PM

-Toner AM/PM (depending on skin type)

-Serum AM (Peptides | Hydrating | Vit C)

-Serums PM (Mostly serums with anti-aging or acne-fighting properties)

-Moisturizer AM/PM

-SPF AM

-Hydrating Spritzers ( to spruce up makeup or give skin a glowing burst of nutrients)

2. Are your products recommended by a professional who took the time to assess your skin correctly? (Yes or No)

Suppose you haven’t had your skin assessed by a professional and play the skincare guessing game. Buying from an influencer on Instagram or an ad from Amazon is a game of roulette I don’t think anyone should roll the dice on. This is your face we’re talking about!

3. Are you expecting your cleansers to do the work of serums? (Yes or No)

Budgets should always be considered when designing a skincare routine. However, you can expect a hammer to do a screwdriver’s job. Or a screwdriver to do the work of a saw. It simply doesn’t work that way.

4. Are you giving the products a chance to work? (Yes or No)

I find too many clients get sucked into the Buy and Try cycle. This is where you buy an expensive product, try it for a week or a month, and get bored or disappointed when you don’t see a significant wow immediately. You buy something new the next time you’re shopping. **You spend/waste a lot of money when you become a victim of this cycle.**

TRUTH: Changes in the skin take time, and you have to give your products at least a month of

consistent usage to start to see change because that’s the bare minimum it takes for new skin cells to reach the outermost layer of the skin. If you are over 35, you probably need to think of waiting 6+ weeks to see the tides changing.

The most gorgeous skin I see is the skin of those who find a product designed to help their specific skincare concerns and stick with it for an extended period.

I hope this helps you on your look-and-feel-beautiful journey. Reach out and LMK if there is anything I can help you with concerning your current and future skin care.
